General Information

The State of Utah, Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands currently employs 20 career leadership positions and 90 seasonal fire fighter positions at the Lone Peak Conservation Center. Crew members and leadership have the opportunity to move between engine and initial attack crews and a National IHC to gain a variety of experience. We also manage a college internship fire crew in cooperation with Utah Valley University. There are other career ladder opportunities within the Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands. These include Area FMO, WUI Coordinators, and County Fire Wardens.

The state adheres to PMS 310-1 Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide and completed Position Task Books (PTB) and experience for determining duty assignments.

Jobs are posted on a variety of WEB sites. Seasonal fire and permanent career positions are posted on the Utah State Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) employment site or found by following the Job Opening link in the gray pannel to the right of this section. Seasonal positions are posted for each crew with instructions for submitting an application or resume.

Seasonal fire job applications or resumes can be sent directly to Lone Peak Center or submitted through firejobs@utah.gov.

Recruitment normally starts in December with interviews taking place in January and February. The firefighter internship program has its selection process in April after all University Fire and Rescue Academy course requirements are completed.

All qualifying applicants are given a scheduled panel interview. Selected applicants will need to produce past training and experience records.
